THE REDWOOD FIELD V2 WATCH

Heritage-Inspired. Rugged. Assembled in Canada.

“We know how hard it is to find a watch with the right look, a solid build, and a fair price. That is why we started Redwood.”

The Redwood Brothers

WW2 MEETS MODERN TECH

In the 1940s, the A-11 military standard established detailed specifications for a field watch that later became the de facto standard issue timepiece for the USAAF and eventually infantry and ground forces. One of its features was the ability to stop the seconds hand to sync time with the commanding officer.

Our inspiration for the Redwood Field watch was dubbed the "watch that won the war". Reinterpreted with modern dimensions and updated technology, it is ready for anything you throw at it. Even though most of us will never be wearing our watch on the battlefield, it is powerful knowing it has a strong historical background and the means to back its looks.

DiAL & HANDS

As is to be expected for a military tool watch, one of the most important aspects the A-11 spec was legibility of the dial and hands. The Redwood Field's high-contrast dial is devoid of unnecessary details and features large numerals for quick and clear reading. The pencil-shaped hour and minute hands are all business and the high-viz red second hand helps confirm correct movement operation with just a glance.

CASE CONSTRUCTION

The design of the Field watch case is the embodiment of form following function, with a no-nonsense, rugged, all-stainless construction. The most noticeable update to the A-11 spec is size. Whereas period watches had a diameter of 32-33mm, the Redwood is a modern 40mm, the sweet spot for a field watch. The brushed finish reduces unwanted glare. The massive lugs are insurance against failure. They are drilled for easy spring bar removal. The Redwood Field watch is also equipped with an oversized crown for easier operation.

LUME

Original standard-issue watches did not feature any luminescence and had limited use in low light conditions. Radioactive substances such as radium and tritium were later used to provide illumination causing safety issue during operation and disposal. Redwood uses non-radioactive Super-Luminova pigments, a major improvement over period tech. The pigment appears white in daytime conditions and produces a strong greenish glow in low light after exposure to light or UV. All three hands and the dial are coated. White dial models are entirely luminescent whereas numerals and markers are luminescent on black dial models.

CASEBACK

The caseback of the Redwood Field watch might appear cryptic for the uninitiated with several lines of coded text engraved into the solid stainless steel piece. In a tip of the hat to government-contract timepieces, the caseback features important information about the watch including model number, type of movement, water resistance rating, date of manufacture as well as manufacturer contact information.

WATCH ROLL

Each Redwood Field watch is shipped in a heritage-inspired watch roll. Borrowing design elements from the M42 field jacket, the sturdy watch roll is made of a thick olive drab 18oz cotton canvas with walnut brown leather trim. The watch roll can hold up to 6 watches. Slide watches in the slots, fold over the top flap, roll from right to left and fasten with the cord. The result is a secure, safe and compact way to store and carry watches.
