I’ve only had my watch for a few weeks, but love it! I was looking for something durable, but nice enough to go with most things I wear day to day. I bought it with the leather mil-spec strap, plus a khaki ribbed nylon strap. Most days it’s on the nylon strap, but I wanted the leather one in case I wanted to wear something put together for a dinner out or an otherwise nice occasion. The leather is a bit lighter in color than I anticipated, but still looks nice. Switching out the straps is very easy.
I haven’t noticed any lag in keeping time, and for a quartz solar watch, the seconds hand hits each marker nicely. That wasn’t a deal breaker for me, but I had researched quartz watches from other brands with similar watch styles and I noticed that was a complaint I saw. The lume is nice and the hands glow very brightly after a short time exposed to sunlight. It took a bit longer under inside light to get that bright. The numbers don’t seem as bright as the hands, which was a bit disappointing, but I’m not often in a spot where it’s pitch dark out, and the face is otherwise very legible.
I did initially have some questions on sizing before I purchased and Redwood was responsive and informative. The 40mm size worked nicely on my smaller wrist, which is about 6.5” to 6.75” diameter. I chose to email them rather than use their chat function. Shipping was easy and I received the watch within about a week from Canada to the US.
Overall, I’m very happy with my purchase, and have already gotten a compliment on its looks. I would definitely recommend Redwood to others, and like knowing I supported a smaller business instead of one of the larger watch manufacturers out there.
Without a date window, these field watches seem like fashion watches despite their specs. The Epson VS37 Solar movement supports it, so is it a design choice? It a pity for an otherwise good looking watch at this price.
I was tired of paying 500-800$ in maintenance every 5-6 years for a high-end watch. This proudly Canadian brand looks great, nearly maintenance free and I love it !
